PCOD/PCOS

What is PCOD?

Women suffering from PCOD or PCOS have issues with their ovaries, which produce abnormal levels of progesterone and estrogen hormones that regulate their menstrual cycle. Inhibin, relaxin, and androgens are also produced by these ovaries in small amounts. Therefore, ovaries afflicted by PCOD influence a wide range of hormones.

PCOD affects almost 10% of women in the world. PCOS women produce greater amounts of male hormones than those with PCOD. As a result of this hormonal imbalance, they skip menstrual periods and have difficulty getting pregnant.

What are the causes of PCOD?

A woman with PCOD produces many immature or partially mature eggs in her ovaries, and these eggs subsequently form cysts in the ovaries over time. Consequently, the ovaries grow large and secrete high levels of male hormones (androgens) which lead to infertility, irregular menstruation cycles, hair loss, and abnormal weight gain.

What are the symptoms of PCOD?

1.The irregularity of menstruation
2.A menstrual cycle that is skipped or absent

5.Presence of acne on multiple parts of the body
6.Obesity
7.Loss of hair (hair tends to thin and fall out on the scalp)
8.Darkening of the skin (under the breasts, in the groin)
